Season 5’s disaster also differs largely from other years as this time it was purposely caused by an integral member of the cast: the fire at the bar was secretly caused by Dave to cover up the body of Dr. On top of a five-year time jump between the end of Season 4 and beginning of Season 5, this year’s mystery centers around Dave Williams ( Neal McDonough), Edie Britt’s ( Nicollette Sheridan) new husband who has evidently moved onto Wisteria Lane solely to exact revenge from someone in his past. While a plane crash may seem much more dramatic (and thus, entertaining) on paper compared to Season 5’s disaster, a fire at a local bar where all the characters have gathered, it’s easier to invest in as the fifth season’s overall storyline was much more compelling. “Boom Crunch” did help Angie Bolen ( Drea de Matteo) be rid of Mona Clark’s ( Maria Cominis) malicious blackmail, but even then, it was hard to care like we used to because, who’s Mona Clark again? Not everyone would make it out of these situations in one piece and, aside from creating sometimes impeccable suspense, the disaster episodes of Desperate Housewives sought to illustrate that no matter how much we think we have everything all figured out, the universe is always going to have other plans. Thereafter, and usually to leave us hanging in time for the holiday hiatus, the series made use of four other disasters (a tornado, a fire, a plane crash, and a riot) that would deeply impact each of the main characters as well as determine the pace of the season’s remaining storyline. ![]()
